Top 5 Young Adult Book Series

I used to be an avid reader; I honestly spent more time in my books than with my friends. I even met one of my best friends online through a book. I would read anything and everything supernatural, dark, dystopian, etc. I haven’t wanted to read much lately, but that doesn’t mean I’m not still in love with the books I’ve read. Nor does it mean I hate reading; I just haven’t found the right book.

I know for a fact that when I first got obsessed with reading, I had a hard time finding good books before I finished my current one. While Goodreads gave me lots of ideas, I found that the best books will find you, not the other way around. Doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try to speed up the process, though.

I’ve compiled a list (in no particular order) of Young ADult series’ that I’ve enjoyed.

1) The Hunger Games Trilogy – Suzanne Collins

2767052

– This book was recommended to me by a neighborhood friend, and I thought it sounded cool so I read it. I fell in love. While the series is most popular for it’s movies, the books were amazing. I loved the first best, and the last was my least favorite.

-Basically, THG is about a dystopian future of America where people are divided into separate Districts. On a certain day each year, each of the 12 districts must choose two children (one male, one female) from the ages of 12–18 to participate in a fight to the death: The Hunger Games. This is a punishment by the Capitol.

2) The Divergent Trilogy – Veronica Roth

13335037

– I discovered this book before it became popular. Goodreads had recommended this book to me a few times, but for some reason the main character’s name (Beatrice) made me think it would be a horrible book—silly reason, I know—so I put it off until something made me read it; I don’t remember what, maybe it was a review or something? Anyway, that was a couple of years ago, but Divergent is still one of my favorite books. The last book killed me.

– Divergent is set in a futuristic dystopian Chicago, where, at the age of 16, you must choose who you will be for the rest of your life. Citizens are divided into five different factions: Dauntless, the brave; Amity, the peaceful; Erudite, the intelligent; Abnegation, the selfless; and Candor, the honest. Each teen is given a test the day before the choosing ceremony. Beatrice’s test was inconclusive, meaning, she’s divergent.

– This one I had seen plenty of times, but since I wasn’t particularly in love with the 3rd person POV, I had passed it up. That is, until my friend basically made me read it, and I couldn’t be more thankful. There are currently five books out. The last one is due to be released in May of this year.

– In present day NYC, normal girl Clary finds out that there is much more to the world than she could have ever imagined when she finds her house destroyed and her mother kidnapped. Things get even weirder when she starts seeing people and things that nobody else can see. Things like demons.

4) The Mortality Doctrine – James Dashner

– I actually found this one on my own, while at a bookstore. I was in a rush, so I picked it up because it looked cool and then we left. So glad I did! Currently, there is only one book out (The Eye of Minds), but there are more due to come.

5) The Mediator – Meg Cabot

187811

– I received this book from my older sister. It was written a while ago, 10 years ago. The series has long since ended and there are six books in the series.

– Main character, Suze, moves from the big city to some rural town in California, only to find that her new house is haunted by the ghost of an attractive young man. See, Suze can see and speak to the dead. Unfortunately, she can also touch and be touched by them, which gets her into trouble when she comes across some unkind spirits. The series documents her ghostly experiences and her ever-growing relationship with the hot ghost, Jesse.
